Description

The links between the autonomous systems (AS) from different countries declared in the databases of the Regional Internet Registries (RIR databases) are shown.
The affiliation of AS to a country is determined on the basis of the statistical reports of the RIR, which, in turn, reflect the data that the companies provide in requests for the allocation of IP resources. In fact, a single AS can be used in a country that was not specified in the request.

The graph nodes are countries. The more AS in the country, the larger the graph node. The node color is set depending on the country belonging to a particular RIR.
The edges of the graph are shown by arrows, and directed from customers from one country to providers from another country. The more such connections, the thicker the arrow.
When you hover on a graph node, up-streams (from client to provider) are highlighted in red, down-streams (from provider to client) - in blue. Clicking on a node or an edge displays a window with a description. In this window, you can switch to a more detailed graph of links between AS from the selected country.
In the country details, a rating of countries with the most up-streams and down-streams is given.

It is possible to show AS the world's largest operators separately. In this case, their set is shown as a separate node with the inscription "tier1".

The affiliation of AS to a country and region is determined on the basis of the RIPE statistical reports, which, in turn, reflect the data that the companies provide in requests for the allocation of IP resources. In fact, a single AS can be used in a region that was not specified in the request.

It is possible to show AS the Russian largest operators (Rostelecom, Transtelecom, MTS, Megafon, Beeline) separately. In this case, their set is shown as a separate node with the inscription "big5ru".

Below is a list of regions with the number of declared links (excluding links with AS of the Russians largest operators, if they are singled out separately).

Autonomous systems presented on the graph are selected by country in accordance with the rating. It is possible to specify the AS by its number or the as-name: attribute (it is possible to use the % symbol to search by mask) explicitly.
If the export: and import: attributes of the two ASs refer to each other, a connection is displayed between them. It is assumed that the connection is "upstream", if

The number of displayed AS is regulated by the buttons "+" and "-". Switches are also provided that will switch on only some links:
  • upstream (arrow from the client to the provider) or peering (line without arrows);
  • connections are specified for both AS or only for one AS (a strongly dashed line on the part of the AS, for which export/import is not specified at all, and slightly intermittent, if "ANY" is not indicated for upstream);
  • leave only links within the country or show all.
When you hover the mouse over a node (a circle of a specific AS), all links from it are highlighted: upstreams — red, downstreams — blue, and peers — purple.
Double clicking on a node locks it in place.
A single click on a node or link shows the details of the AS (aut-num, as-name, org-name, as-set list) or the link (the export: and import: attributes shortly, as-set are expanded, the default: attribute is shown as "accept any").
The "BGP" button in details of AS shows a graph with upstreams for this AS and real AS-PATH to the world largest operators.

Algorithm for constructing a graph:
  • All AS-PATHs are selected from the specified AS to the AS of the world's largest operators and the largest Russian AS
  • Providers are selected from the specified AS on the attribute "import: from AS_provider accept ANY"
  • The union of the resulting sets of ASs is taken.
  • All links are selected between the ASs, where it is indicated "import: from AS1 accept ..." or "export: to AS2 announce ...", or when the AS goes in a row in one of the AS-PATH.
Legend:
  • The investigated AS is circled in a yellow circle.
  • AS of the world's largest operators are marked in white.
  • Russian AS are marked in colors of the flag of the Russian Federation.
  • AS-PATH is shown by dotted arrows.
  • Links from the RIR database are shown by solid arrows.
  • In addition, if an provider AS-SET explicitly includes a client AS-SET, such arrow is highlighted in golden color. On the contrary, if the client AS-SET includes the provider AS-SET, the arrow will be red (this is an wrong record in the RIR database!).
It is possible to highlight the connection based on:
  • BGP AS-PATH,
  • the WHOIS database.
On the graph you can see where there are only BGP connections (AS-PATH), where there are only links in RIR database, and where are both.

When you hover the mouse over the AS being investigated, all links from it are highlighted: upstreams - in red, downstreams - in blue, and peers - in purple.

When you hover the mouse on the AS, to which there is an BGP connection (AS-PATH), these BGP connectins are highlighted.

The "DEL" button in details of AS node allows you to remove a node, and see what happens with connectivity when this AS is disabled.
